only 20 minutes over - not bad.
![]() I loved the comment earlier in the evening about VF cancelling their party saying it was in honor of the writers - Jon Stewart commented that maybe next time to honor the writers they should INVITE some of them to the party. It was cute All in all, a good ceremony. Nothing too spectacularly funny or bad. Did love the Josh Brolin and James McAvoy bit. So cute.

They say that Director and Picture wins go hand in hand.
I love how Atonement got neglected for the most part. I think it won two awards? Okay. Kerry. Tilda Swinton's dress? I love her as an actress, but her fashion choices always leave me shaking my head. |

i got 17 out of 24 on the office pool. i hope i win!
yes, tilda swinton's dress choice was not the best. but more of an eh? than a blech! i did love her cuff, though on her right wrist. fabu. other than that i was pissed she won instead of cate just cause she had a very i'm not bothered attitude about the whole thing.

I still haven't seen I'm Not There. I want to. I really, really want to. Cate is a favourite.
What did you think of Helen Mirren's dress, Kerry? I did like how she knighted DDL with the Oscar, lol. ETA: Ugh, I don't know is she had them on during the show, but Julie Christie was wearing pink (possibly leather?) elbow length gloves on while walking the red carpet. Why? |

I was happy that song from Once won. What a great song.
/There Will Be Blood's score wasn't nominated because some of the material was pre-exisiting. //Tilda Swinton was a bit of a suprise winner. |

i am sad i wasn't home to participate in this thread!
interestingly enough, before tilda swinton won i called her "the poor man's cate blanchett" i thought most of the dresses were icky. jennifer garner's would have been cute, but the chest was awful. helen miran's i would have liked more if the sleeves had been different, or if she had been wearing an actual shrug. we cried during diablo cody's speech. just a little. it was so cute!! i was shocked as hell that she won. not that she didn't deserve it, but people who are deserving of oscars don't always win them.

Bump.
I'm looking at the arrival pictures over on Getty and Lisa Rinna needs to step away from plastic surgery. So gross. Why is she even invited to award shows at all? |

W.T.F. Sophia Loren? Yikes.
And Kate Winslet should have been nominated for supporting actress, not best actress. She's been nominated numerous times and this is the year they give her the award? Fail. I do like how they got past winners to announce the actor categories this year. Better than having the nominees on stage like that one other year. |

I read the entire first page of this thread before realizing it was a year old.
I'm really happy the way this year's Oscars turned out! It was beautiful, classy and far more intimate feeling. Kate Winslet is my favorite and I'm SO happy that she got best actress. The Reader was fantastic movie. Sean Penn for Milk made me happy too. Mickey Rourke was awesome too, so I would have been satisfied either way.
